Getting Started As A Proctor
To become a NATE Proctor, you must read the NATE Proctor Guidelines and familiarize yourself with related documents as they pertain to your testing center. Once you are familiar with them, please complete the Proctor Application. Be sure to follow the detailed instructions attached to the application. Once you have submitted your application, it takes NATE about two weeks to evaluate it, and you will be notified in writing when your application has been approved.
For Proctors Administering Paper and Pencil Tests
If you are going to administer the NATE tests using paper and pencil tests, you must review the Proctor Script, and the Proctor Checklist.. You are required to READ the script during the testing process.
You should also familiarize yourself with the Test Transmittal Form, as you will be required to complete and include it in the package when you return the tests for grading.
Proctor Responsibilities: As a proctor, you have responsibility for supervising the actual testing session. Your responsibilities are explained in detail in the Proctor's Guidelines and include activities such as, delivering the test materials to the test site, managing the site arrangements, instructing candidates prior to a test session and monitoring site activity to ensure that all candidates are tested fairly. If candidates have special space or egress needs, or if they need to have the test read to them, the proctor must arrange for it prior to the start of the test session.
For Proctors Administering Electronic (Online) Tests
If you are going to administer the NATE tests using computers you should familiarize yourself with the online testing procedures by reviewing the NATE Online Testing Manual and viewing the NATE Online Testing Video.
